How to Estimate a Healthy Weight Range (Men)

For a ballpark estimate of your weight status, use the following rule of thumb.

  • Allow 108 pounds for your first 5 feet
  • Add 6 pounds for every inch above 5 feet
  • Or, deduct 6 pounds for every inch under 5 feet.
  • To estimate your healthy weight range add 10 percent for the upper weight limit of the range, and deduct 10 percent for the lower limit of the range.

Example

You are 6 feet tall.
Allow 108 pounds for your 5 feet.
Then add 6 pounds X 12 = 72 pounds.
Your individual healthy weight is 108 + 72 = 180 pounds.

To estimate your healthy weight range, add and deduct 10 percent (18 pounds). This makes your range: 162-198 pounds.
