Is Obesity a Risk Factor for Heart Disease?
Yes. The incidence of heart disease (heart
attack, congestive heart failure, sudden cardiac death, angina or chest
pain, and abnormal heart rhythm) is significantly increased in persons
who are obese (BMI > 30). Nearly 70 percent of the diagnosed cases
of heart disease are related to obesity.

High blood pressure - a risk factor
for heart disease - is twice as common in adults who are obese than
in those who are at a healthy weight.
