Child Obesity & LeptinIn rare cases, children can become extremely obese because they lack the gene for leptin, a weight-regulating hormone. Now a new obesity and weight loss study suggests injections of the hormone can help such youngsters shed pounds without stunting their normal growth and development. However, leptin is unlikely to be a useful weight-loss tool for people who are obese due to other reasons, according to Dr. I. Sadaf Farooqi of Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, England.
