Childhood Obesity UKThe rising prevalence of childhood obesity witnessed in the United Kingdom in the last few years has worrying implications for the long-term health of our children. Although still rare, most pediatric endocrinologists have now encountered Type II diabetes in obese children. Those at most risk seem to be from ethnic minorities but severely obese, adolescent females with a family history of Type II diabetes are increasingly being diagnosed. In some parts of the United States of America, up to a third of children diagnosed with glucose intolerance have Type II diabetes and this increase mirrors the rising epidemic of obesity in this age group. It is highly likely that a similar picture will emerge in this country if the problem of obesity is not addressed. Childhood Obesity UK & Metabolic
