Weight Loss & Diet Supplements - Inaccurate
Labels
Labels on diet supplements are not always
accurate. In one study, investigators found dosages were more than 50
percent higher than labeled. Diet supplements may have unlisted ingredients.
The International Olympic Committee found that of 634 nutrition products
that it analyzed, 15 percent contained ingredients banned by the committee
and were not listed on the supplement label.
Regulation of Diet Supplements
Tighter regulation of diet supplements is needed. Weight loss drugs
may not be sold in the United States until they have been tested effective
and certified safe. But diet supplements can, provided they contain ingredients
already in the food supply. But since many diet supplements especially
herbal "phen-fens" perform like drugs perhaps they should be
classified as weight loss drugs not supplements.
Diet and Weight Loss Supplements
If you want to reduce weight and you are considering buying supplements,
then for optimum health, as well as fat loss, check ingredients thoroughly.
Labelling and health follow-up arrangements for dietary supplements are
relatively lax, so it's up to you to vet the supplement product!
