Body Fat MonitorsAlthough your Body Mass Index can give an excellent indication of whether or not you need to lose (or gain) weight, the most accurate gauge of whether or not you have a weight problem can be found by measuring your body fat percentage. Body Fat can be measured using simple skin fold callipers, although results can be inconsistent, especially with the cheaper plastic callipers. The callipers grip two layers of skin in various places on the body (e.g. triceps, abdomen and thigh), the distance between them is measured and the amount of subcutaneous fat can then be calculated. Ideally, you need a trained person to measure Body Fat Percentage with callipers. Buy callipers that come with a booklet explaining how to work out body fat percentage from the measurements taken. Body fat callipers range from about $200 down to $15 for basic plastic calipers with booklet. See also Electronic Body Fat Monitors How
