Do-it-Yourself calorie-counting will work to produce weight loss if the calorie level chosen is sufficient to create an energy deficit. And a calorie controlled diet can be followed indefinitely. Also, because of the variety of foods allowed, such a diet may be easier to follow long-term than many other diets.
