Empty Calories in Sugar
Sugar is High in Energy but Empty of Nutrition
How to Control Weight

Sugar Has Empty Calories

Sugar has what nutritionists call 'empty' calories - it has virtually no other nutrients at all. If you want to lose weight, a good first step is to reduce your intake of sugar.

Sugar (especially high-sugar drinks) are promoted as being 'high in energy' but this is just another way of saying 'high in calories'. It's a myth that we need sugar for energy - all food gives us energy.

We don't need 'instant energy' from sugar either: our bodies have already thought of that, and we have glucose in our bloodstream and glycogen (glucose and water) stored in our liver and muscles instantly available whenever we need them.
