Fat and Sugar - Not Ideal Foods For Weight Loss! Both fat and sugar are calorie-dense - meaning, they pack many calories into a small space. So when eating fatty or sugary foods, it's easy to eat far too many calories before you get full. Weight-for-weight, pure fat contains twice as many calories as pure protein or pure carbohydrate. In practice, of course, most food is a mixture of all three (and water) in varying proportions but when fat is present in significant amounts the calorie count starts shooting up. In nature, sugar invariably comes bound up with fiber, as in fresh fruit, which limits the amount of it you can eat. However, once processed and unnaturally concentrated, it is packed with calories.
