Fiber, Blood Sugar & Hunger

Fiber helps us to lose weight in many different ways. For example, fiber-rich foods help to slow down the rate at which our bodies absorb sugar from food into the bloodstream. This is important because if we have a meal high in sugar, our body reacts by pouring out the hormone insulin into the blood. This hormone regulates the level of sugar in the blood, and a surge of it after a high sugar meal can push the level of sugar in the blood right down. This causes us to feel hunger between meals. When we eat lots of fiber rich food, the levels of blood sugar tend to be more steady and to fluctuate less. Result? We have fewer cravings and a more regular appetite.
