Fiber Reduces Calorie IntakeHere's another way that fiber assists weight loss. Because our stomachs can't break down fiber, it passes straight through our digestive system. There's now some evidence that fiber rich foods may help to reduce the amount of calories that our bodies extract from food (calorie-uptake). And fewer calories means more weight loss. How does fiber help reduce calorie-uptake? By speeding up the movement of food through the intestines, which reduces the opportunity for calories to be absorbed. However, please note that the calorie-reduction is quite small, irrespective of how much fiber is consumed. So don't overeat fiber to lose weight - it doesn't work and may be unhealthy.
