Weight Loss Plateau EffectSome people following a weight loss diet find that all goes well for the first couple of weeks, then - arrrrgh! A week or two goes by with no weight loss at all. They're sticking to their diet and they can't understand it. This is the so-called 'weight loss plateau' or leveling-off effect and it happens all the time. All it means is that your body's metabolism is adjusting to a reduction in calories. So don't quit dieting or get discouraged. Just follow your weight loss diet as normal and don't be tempted to starve yourself to boost your weight loss - it doesn't work. If you have patience and carry on with your diet, you will overcome this 'weight loss plateau' and start to lose weight again. Taking more exercise is a particularly good idea at this time as it should make any 'weight loss plateau' phase shorter. But don't worry about it: many people who have made really spectacular weight losses have gone through one or two 'plateaux' before they've got there. Aerobic
