Obesity Poses Health Dangers for ChildrenObese or excessively fat children may be priming their bodies for heart disease and strokes later in life, according to a recent study of obese children. Even if they grow up into slim adults, the damage to their arteries has already been done, according to a team of French doctors. Researchers at Armand-Trousseau Hospital, Paris, compared 48 obese children with 27 of average weight. The arteries of obese children were stiffer than those of thinner children. There were also differences in the lining of the arteries, a feature linked to heart disease and strokes. The team, led by Dr Patrick Tounian, published their findings in The Lancet.
