Weight Loss ResultsFad diets are often the rage, but they're generally not necessary, according to a highly publicized report issued last year by Consumer Reports, an independent consumer publication. The magazine looked at 32,000 dieters, including 8,000 who had successfully lost at least 10 percent of their weight and kept it off for one year, and another 4,000 people who maintained their weight losses for at least five years. Astoundingly, some 83 percent of the most successful dieters said they lost weight completely on their own. Among this group, dubbed "superlosers," only 6 percent had ever used dietary supplements such as Metabolife or Dexatrim, and just 14 percent of the group ever signed up with Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig or some other formal diet plan, according to the magazine. Most of these successful people shunned meal replacements and Slim Fast items, too. Their secret weapon was exercise, including lifting weights. Those who exercised three times a week or more pegged the activity as their top factor in losing weight. Source: www.greatfallstribune.com. 2003 Aerobic
