Diet and Blood Sugar
The following measures should help to keep
your blood sugar levels even while you lose weight and, indeed, afterwards.
- Avoid alcohol on an empty stomach
Alcohol acts like sugar and will send your blood sugar levels high,
then dip them low because of the insulin effect.
- Avoid smoking
This, too, disrupts the body's regulation of blood sugars.
- Regularly eat oily fish, flaxseeds
& other sources of omega-3s
Research shows they may help regulate blood sugar levels by increasing
insulin sensitivity.
- Eat something before exercising
Have a small meal or decent snack containing complex carbs plus a medium
or low GI fruit or other item. Examples: - slice of whole wheat bread
with a banana, small bowl of pasta with tomato sauce.
