Information About Weight and Diet - Weight Loss Dieting

Do Men Need to Follow a Different Diet?

No. Men can lose weight on the same type of calorie-controlled diet as women, although a few small changes may be beneficial.

Men typically have a higher metabolic rate than women - because they are heavier, taller and have a higher percentage of lean tissue (muscle). Therefore men need to eat more calories (food) on their reduced-calorie diet than women do. Otherwise they are likely to feel hungry or lose weight too quickly.

Some men may need a little more protein than women - for example, men who do hard physical work all day, or men who are professional sportsmen.

So instead of increasing portion sizes of all types of food to increase your total calorie intake, you might first increase the protein element of the meal (fish, chicken, lean meat, pulses, low-fat dairy produce, etc) and then, if you are losing weight too quickly, also add an extra carbohydrate (bread, potato, pasta, rice, etc).

Weight Loss Diet Advice

Weight loss diets should contain balanced eating plans which include all food groups. Because a balanced diet gives you more nutrition. Remember: a well-nourished body loses weight faster.
