What is a Good Diet for a Diabetic?

Diabetes UK says that it doesn't provide a special diet for diabetics, as the diet they should follow is similar to the kind of healthy diet that is appropriate for most people. Type 2 diabetes may be improved or even cured via weight loss.

That said, here are a few diet tips if you are diabetic and trying to lose weight:

1. Eating 'little and often' really is the best way to keep blood sugar levels stable

2. Don't go more than 2 and 1/2 hours without something to eat during waking hours.

3. Add foods with a low Glycemic Index to your diet
These will also help stabilize your blood sugars and help keep hunger at bay.

4. Don't try dieting on a plan very low in fat
The 25-30 percent level is low enough. A little fat with your meals helps the meal take longer to be absorbed and, again, will help maintain even blood sugar levels. The same applies to protein. So at each meal eat some low-GI carb, some fat and some protein.
