What is Fasting - What Are Diet Fasts

Fasting is another form of a very low calorie diet and is used by people to lose weight and/or cleanse the body. Fasting can involve eating nothing at all for a set period of time, or else restricting your diet to certain natural foods or drinks.

What You Eat on A Fasting Diet

There are different versions of fasting diets. Some fasts allow no food, but some fruit juice. Other fasts allow water only. Some fasts allow a few small fruits during the day and some include watery soups.

How A Fasting Diet Helps You Lose Weight

A very short term fast (e.g. 24 hours) may indeed help to cleanse the body of toxins. However, it is not a long-term weight loss method, because fasting deprives your body of nutrients and does nothing to help you modify your dietary habits. In fact, if undertaken for several days, a diet-fast can lead to a slow down in your metabolism and an increase in food-cravings. This can lead to weight gain when the fast is over.

There's no such thing as a perfect weight loss diet. Almost all weight loss diets help us lose weight and teach us something about healthy weight control. But exercise is an important part of all weight loss programs, so set aside enough time for an aerobic workout.
