The idea behind fat burner diets is that they induce the body to burn its own fat for fuel. One of the more popular UK fat burning diets is Patrick Holford's 30-Day Fat Burner Diet which works, he claims, by creating an ideal blood sugar and insulance balance on a diet of 50 percent carbs, 25 percent protein and 25 percent fat.

In reality, most fat burning diets promote weight loss only by reducing calories, not because of any fat-burning attributes of foods consumed. As yet, there is still no clinical support for the idea that certain diet foods have significant fat-burning qualities.
