C75 Weight Loss Compound

While searching for a cure for cancer, researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore discovered that when a synthetic compound called c75 was injected into mice, they lost much of their appetite and up to 30 percent of their body weight.

The C75 'weight loss compound' inhibits an enzyme called fatty acid synthase, which tricks the brain into thinking it's not hungry. Another plus: the c75 mice lost more weight than fasting mice because their metabolism didn't slow down.

Even more exciting, the response seems to bypass the leptin control of body weight. If you feed treated and untreated mice a reduced diet, both lose weight, but the C75-treated mice loose 45 percent more than untreated mice fed the same amount of food. C75 seems to ignore the leptin-mediated metabolic slowdown that in fasting animals compensates for reduced food intake. Researchers confirmed this by showing that C75 quells the appetites of mutant mice totally lacking the leptin hormone.

Unfortunately, its not likely to be available anytime soon as a weight loss pill. Its not even clear that it will work in humans, or that it would be safe - the effects of C75 are pretty severe.
