Overweight & Obese Children Germany
Prevention of childhood obesity has been
the focus of an 8 year follow up study in Germany, known as KOPS - Kiel
Obesity Prevention Study. Between 1996 and 1999, children aged 5-7 years
were assessed and a combined school and family-based intervention undertaken.
At assessment, 20.7% of the children were considered as overweight and
obese, and 31% of the normal weight children were considered to be at
risk of becoming obese later in life.
