UK Weight Loss Diet Study
Weight Loss Study - UK
One in 5 men and one in 3 women are currently trying to lose weight, according
to a weight loss study in 2002 by The British Dietetic Association (BDA).
In response, the BDA launched a national campaign Weight Wise advising
people take control of their body weight and waist size. The campaign,
which forms part of its annual Food First program aims to raise awareness
of the benefits of a balanced and varied diet in achieving and maintaining
a healthy weight.
Body Fat
Excess body fat around the waist compared with around the hips can be
particularly unhealthy. A waist circumference measurement of more than
32 inches (80cm) for a woman and 37 inches (94cm) for a man increases
health risks.
Weight Loss Study Results
The weight loss study revealed that only 6 in10 adults were aware that
it is more dangerous to your health to carry extra weight around the waist.
However, most people were knowledgeable when it came to weight loss and
weight loss programs. When asked what they would consider to be a healthy
approach to losing weight, 9 out of 10 adults agreed with choosing healthy
eating and exercise and two thirds would consult a weight loss professional.
One in 4 considered food-combining diets to be a good method, with similar
numbers reporting a detox program to be a healthy and successful weight
loss approach.
When asked which nutrient to cut down on
most in the diet to lose or control body weight, just over 6 out of 10
respondents correctly identified fat.
