Benefits of Weight Loss
A 10 percent weight loss translates as
21 pounds for a 210 pound person. If you are very overweight, you would
probably notice improvements in health with losses smaller than that -
for example, high blood pressure begins to reduce almost as soon as you
begin to lose weight.
An ideal weight range is a body mass index
of around 20-25, but it is much better to lose at least some weight and
reduce your BMI somewhat than to not even try because you think you would
never get near this ideal weight range.
Weight loss for health is relative - as examples, someone with a BMI of
40 reduces their risk of ill health and premature death by lowering their
BMI to 35; someone with a BMI of 35 reduces the risk by getting down to
a BMI of 29; someone with a BMI of 29 reduces their risks by lowering
their BMI to 25. The more normal your BMI, the greater your chances of
living a long and healthy life - but in practice weight professionals
find that people have more chance of losing weight and maintaining a healthy
weight if they aim for more moderate weight loss goals.
Weight Loss Health Advice
Weight loss and health go hand in hand.
The healthier your body, the faster you lose weight. Which is another
good reason to exercise regularly and eat healthily. And it's another
good reason to avoid fad diets or weight loss methods (like weight loss
pills and supplements) that don't help us to develop good eating habits.
