Insulin, Weight Control and DiabetesTo maintain a healthy weight and body, go easy on high-sugar foods, especially alcohol. If you drink a lot of alcoholic drinks (which contain not only alcohol but also simple carbs) over a long period of time these may eventually cause your insulin-producing mechanism to get 'worn out'. Insulin is released in the body in response to high intake of sugar (simple carbs). When the insulin mechanism is overloaded you may get what is known as insulin resistance, a syndrome that is linked with a fat belly and increased risk of diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Avoid this possibility by having alcohol and simple carbs in small doses and concentrating mainly on eating complex carbs, lean protein and vegetables. Also, eat meals that are generally smaller, but more frequent. Short Articles About Weight and Health
