Obesity and Heart Risk
Weight and health studies - including the
famous Framingham Heart Study - positively link weight gain with the risk
of developing CHD, and the fatter you are, the greater the risk becomes.
Also, intra-abdominal fat is more closely linked with CVD than any other
distribution of body fat. The evidence is so strong that the American
Heart Association has listed obesity as one of the primary risk factors
for CHD.
If you already have heart disease and are overweight, it is important
to try to reduce your weight, say specialists, to within 10 percent of
a normal weight range (i.e. to get down to a BMI of around 27-8 maximum),
as excess weight increases the load on your weakened heart, especially
during exercise, which is generally encouraged for heart patients.

Weight loss and health go hand in hand.
The healthier your body, the faster you lose weight. Which is another
good reason to exercise regularly and eat healthily. And it's another
good reason to avoid fad diets or weight loss methods (like weight loss
pills and supplements) that don't help us to develop good eating habits.
