Does Overweight Shorten Lifespan?

Obesity is linked with a wide range of illnesses and health problems and, as some of these are life-threatening, obesity is indirectly responsible for shortening life for people who develop these illnesses. We also have concrete evidence of exactly how obesity can shorten lifespan.

For instance, one US study of over 300,000 people by the University of North Carolina, published in 1999, found that obesity increases the risk of death from natural causes for a man aged between 40 and 50 to that of a male nearly 6 years older, and the risk of a similarly aged woman increased to that of a woman 6.4 years older. As another example, the survey found that a 5ft 10in man weighing 20 pounds over the ideal BMI has a 20 percent higher risk of death.

Weight Loss Health Advice

Weight loss and health go hand in hand. The healthier your body, the faster you lose weight. Which is another good reason to exercise regularly and eat healthily. And it's another good reason to avoid fad diets or weight loss methods (like weight loss pills and supplements) that don't help us to develop good eating habits.
