Obesity Drug Axokine
Axokine Obesity Drug Study Summary
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) unveiled disappointing results of a clinical
trial for its new obesity drug, Axokine. Roughly two-thirds of human subjects
developed antibodies resistant to the obesity drug after three months
of treatment. In addition, while the results of the obesity study were
statistically significant, the overall magnitude of the weight loss was
small.
Obesity Drug Study Methods
During one year of obesity treatment, subjects treated with a placebo
lost an average of 4.5 pounds of body weight. Those subjects treated with
Axokine who subsequently developed antibodies fared only slightly better,
losing an average of 6.5 pounds of body weight. Subjects who didn't develop
antibodies lost an average of 12.6 pounds body weight.
