Obesity Weight Loss Survey
Obesity Survey - Children
A 2003 Harvard University survey says Americans are divided over the role
government should play in fighting obesity, but they appear more willing
to embrace more pro-active actions to fight obesity in children, including
paying higher taxes, supporting more physical education and limiting the
products school vending machines can offer.
Obesity Survey - Personal Responsibility?
The findings, published in the journal Health Affairs, say just over half
of those surveyed believe obesity is a public health problem while the
other half say it's all about personal responsibility.
Obesity Survey - Junk Food Tax
Only 41 percent of the 1,002 respondents said they favored a special tax
on junk food, but 62 percent said they'd support laws requiring restaurants
to list calorie and nutrition information on menus. Roughly 60 percent
supported banning the sale of high calorie snack foods and sodas in schools.
Another 58 percent supported limiting television advertisements for unhealthy,
high fat foods and drinks that are targeted specifically to children.
