Caffeine Supplements, Coffee & Weight
Loss
Certain studies have found that an average
of 2 and 1/2 cups of coffee produces about 20 percent better performance
in moderately strenuous exercise. It probably does this by increasing
production of epinephrine, which in turn mobilizes the body's fat stores
that can then be used for energy, thus sparing glycogen stores.
Caffeine has also been cited as an aid
to weight loss because of its stimulating effects on the nervous system
and hence the metabolism. However, unless you drink a lot of coffee (which
isn't advisable), overall effect will be small. The fat-mobilizing effect
described is of no use unless you burn the mobilized fat off with exercise.
If you don't, it will simply be restored as body fat.
