Chromium For Weight Loss?

In the body, chromium acts as an insulin 'helper', transporting nutrients to where they are needed. Supplements of chromium, in a form with picolinic acid (said to aid absorption), are promoted as aids to weight loss, fat burning and muscle building.

Athletes in training, with diets producing less than 200mcg of chromium a day, may benefit from a supplement. Research form the American Department of Agriculture also indicates that glycaemic control in diabetics may be helped with chromium supplements, but the scientific evidence for the remaining claims appears to be unsubstantiated.

Indeed, one trial showed that sedentary overweight people actually gain weight when using the supplement, and another that chromium picolinate was no more useful than a placebo in enhancing lean tissue levels or promoting fat loss while exercising. In addition, chromium supplements may accumulate in the body to dangerous levels, and may also interfere with the working of iron to produce iron-deficient anemia.

Note About Weight Loss Pills
