Leptin, Hunger & Obesity TreatmentThe hormone leptin was making headlines five years ago as a treatment for obesity, and now it's back. A current study suggests that leptin, a form of human protein made in fat cells that regulates energy, is effective when combined with existing diet drugs such as meridia, according to obesity researchers. Obesity experts believe that we are genetically predisposed to need a certain amount of leptin, and that when you lose weight and fat, your level of leptin drops. The drop in leptin tricks the body into thinking that it's hungry, and craves it. So the idea is to inject people with leptin, getting them back to the level appropriate for them, without having to regain the weight. See also: Axokine
