Beverly Hills Diet Program - A Short IntroductionThe original Beverly Hills Diet, published in 1981, was a huge success in the US and UK, and its author, Judy Mazel, recently published New Beverly Hills Diet, which is similar to the first in concept. Mazel believes that the body needs enzymes found in particular foods in order to digest food and convert it to energy. For example, her theory is that the enzymes found in fruit will break that fruit down in the body but won't allow other forms of carb foods to be digested, or those that contain protein or fat. We become overweight, she says, when our food isn't digested, but turns to body fat. So far, this theory remains unsupported by clinical evidence. No food can make you fat until it has been digested, and it is the body that makes its own digestive enzymes, and enzymes found in food will be broken down by the digestive system. See also: Beverly
