The Scarsdale Diet and Health

A little too low in calories for modern nutritionists and too high in protein - high levels, especially of animal protein, can cause kidney problems or increase risk of osteoporosis.

Tarnower claimed his balance of protein, carb and fat would produce optimum weight loss and satiety - a difficult claim to judge since this is exactly what all the diets of today claim (and each has a different balance!). The diet works because it is low in calories - and advises walking 2 miles a day - but the weight loss promised may be optimistic.
