Very Low Fat Diet ProgramsMany dietitians and health authorities worldwide agree that low-fat eating is both good for health and also the best way of losing and maintaining weight over a period of time. While most low-fat diets allow 20-30 percent of dietary calories as fat, some diets go much lower than this, attempting to remove all or almost all fat from the diet. As fat is present in small amounts in many foods, a completely fat-free diet isn't possible, but on a very-low-fat diet you may be eating around 10 percent of calories as fat, with a normal 10-20 percent of calories as protein and the remainder as carbs. Two well-known diets adopt this way of eating - US doctor Dean Ornish's Eat More, Weight Less, and The Pritikin Weight Loss Breakthrough by Robert Pritikin. See also: Very Low
