Calorie Balance and Weight Loss
Energy is measured in calories - on food
labels it is shown as 'kcal'. A person who has an active job is going
to expend more energy and calories than someone who works at a desk and
rarely leaves it.
So these two people need very different
amounts of energy from the foods they eat.
If your food intake is equal to the energy
you use, you'll stay the same weight.
If your food intake is less than the energy
you use, you'll lose weight (because stored fat gets used up when the
body needs more energy).
If the energy you use is less than the
food you take in, you'll gain weight.
