Weight Loss Poll - Responsibility for
Weight
Weight Loss Poll
Most Americans (including the obese, overweight and normal weight) accept
personal responsibility what - and how much - they eat, according to a
recent online poll by Research International. 79 percent of all surveyed
agreed that it is our own responsibility to fight obesity, versus 11 percent
putting the blame on companies that manufacture or sell food, and 10 percent
blaming government agencies for not doing anything about this serious
health issue in the US.
Weight Loss Poll Subjects
Out of the 500 American adults, 18 years of age and older, who were asked
for their opinions regarding obesity in the United States, 71 percent
ranged from somewhat overweight to morbidly obese while only 29 percent
considered themselves to fall in the range from ideal body weight to significantly
underweight.
Weight Loss Poll - Overweight Respondents
While overweight respondents blame themselves for being overweight, and
for their children's weight problems, they agreed that advertising high
calorie foods encourages overeating. It was suggested that TV advertising
of foods which are incompatible with healthy diets (such as sugared cereals,
ice cream, candy, sugared soft drinks, high trans-fat and high saturated
fat fast food) should be limited to the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- or banned entirely, much as cigarette advertising was banned.
Weight Loss Poll - Overweight Responsibility
Further, the survey results not only revealed that respondents took the
blame for their own excess body fat, but also knew what to eat to lose
weight, and that they need to exercise more to lose weight.
