Overweight & Obesity in US Soldiers
US forces are overweight. In fact almost
54 percent of pf US soldiers are over age 20 are overweight according
to the November 02 issue of the American Journal of Medicine. However,
not all the "overweight" soldiers have weight problems. They've
been designated "overweight" according to Body Mass Index (BMI)
guidelines because they have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25.
But since the BMI is not correlated to increased risk of weight-related
diseases until a person measures 27 or more, the military has its own,
older standards, using BMI 27 as the starting point for categorizing personnel
as "overweight." If using the "old" BMI standards,
only about 20 percent of the troops are overweight.
Weight Loss & Weight Management
An increase in physical activity is an important part of your weight loss
program. Physical activity improves your muscle/fat ratio - thus raising
metabolism for easier weight loss - and boosts your motivation to maintain
the weight you lose.
