Weight Control in Men & Women
When it comes to weight control, Dr Richardson
is a big believer in pedometers - small, clip-on devices that track the
number of steps a person takes in a given day - as a way to measure lifestyle
activity. A new public health push is encouraging people to clip on a
pedometer and take 10,000 steps per day - which equals roughly five miles
or 30 minutes of daily exercise.
There is one positive note here for women
who are struggling to lose weight while husbands or other men in their
lives make it seem easy.
When it comes to success at keeping weight
off, experts say the gender bias is over. Men who stop eating right and
exercising gain it back just like women do, says Patrick Bird, dean of
the College of Health and Human Performance at University of Florida.
"Men have an advantage in losing the
weight, but they don't necessarily have the advantage in keeping it off,"
he says. "I haven't seen any studies that show that."

Weight Loss & Weight Management
An increase in physical activity is an important part of your weight loss
program. Physical activity improves your muscle/fat ratio - thus raising
metabolism for easier weight loss - and boosts your motivation to maintain
the weight you lose.
